Capita And C2K Launch Free Training For School It Technicians

Capita Managed IT Solutions and C2k have launched Capita College, a free accredited training programme for Post Primary & SEN school ICT technicians in Northern Ireland.

Earlier this year, the first group of 100 ICT technicians enrolled on a five month course designed to increase their knowledge of and proficiency in managing educational IT systems.   The syllabus covers a number of key topics for school ICT technicians, including wireless networking, internet filtering, printer management and ‘Bring Your Own Device’ policies (BYOD).

The course consists of a number of online modular tests, shared distance learning sessions using Capita’s Collaborate app and a classroom teaching session.   The course is designed to enhance the knowledge base and expertise of Northern Ireland’s school ICT technicians, improving the quality and consistency of technology services in schools. In turn, this will directly contribute to a better teaching and learning environment for pupils and teachers across the region – as well ensuring that the C2k and Capita service desk support is available and effective for more complex challenges.

William Hill, a technician from Castle Tower Special School who is currently taking part in the scheme, said: “Being relatively new to the C2k ICT setup, it is just what I needed to encourage me and build my knowledge base.”

The course is free for participating technicians and their schools, and is targeted at post-primary and special educational needs schools. The first cohort of technicians is due to complete the training in August 2016, and those that complete the training will receive a ‘digital badge’ which will allow them to securely certify their achievements on their CV and online.

Ed Brown, managing director of Capita Managed IT Solutions, said: “Capita and C2k are delighted to offer this programme which will not only help ensure that schools in Northern Ireland have access to well maintained and managed ICT systems but also provides additional support to school ICT technicians. Once these technicians have finished their training they will be able to immediately use what they have learnt to support teachers and pupils in schools across Northern Ireland.”

Tim Matchett, Head of C2k managed services, said:  “The Capita College training programme is a great opportunity for school ICT technicians to enhance their knowledge and skills to implement in their everyday roles within NI schools. C2k and Capita feel this will certainly further the technicians’ continual professional development and we look forward to delivering the courses over the coming months.”
