DARD Oracle Database Upgrade

Capita Managed IT Solutions has worked with DARD to complete a project to upgrade GASGIS, a critical information system used in the administration of EU funding for the Northern Ireland agricultural community.

DARD required an upgrade of the underlying database of the GASGIS system from Oracle Enterprise Version 9i to Oracle 11g R2. Capita managed GASGIS Oracle database upgrade project, working closely with DARD to ensure that the project was delivered within defined timescales and to meet client requirements.

DARD Mobile Mapping Solution

Working in partnership with DARD, Capita Managed IT Solutions is delivering a new mobile mapping/GPS system to support its aim to deliver a more effective and customer focused service.

Challenge

Around 1,900 land eligibility inspections are carried out each year, following a review of administrative and technical procedures a number of improvements were identified to provide more accurate measurements, reduce the time spent on inspections and to improve the measuring techniques.


Solution 

A mobile mapping solution using GIS software and incorporated GPS and laptop devices for use in the field was implemented, the solution provides the ability for inspectors to remotely link to DARD's central database to update information and make changes immediately.


Results

The quality and efficiency of inspections has increased with more productive inspectors and detailed inspections with similar resources. The data gathered is more accurate and consistent and the business intelligence gathered has improved.

Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Solution

Challenge

With the increased movement of staff working from offices of other agencies a solution was required which would provide secure flexible working with access to all internal applications.  A solution was also required to prevent the accidental downloading of documents onto desktops outside of the control of Scottish Natural Heritage.


Solution

A Virtual Desktop Infrastructure solution was deployed for staff at remote sites which could not connect to the Wide Area Network.  A backup solution was also implemented for the virtual server.


Result

Staff now have flexible access to their desktop and applications from any location.  Mobile staff are now much more productive with the support of reliable ICT.  Security has been increased with the prevention of document downloads.

Driver & Vehicle Agency - IT Project of the Year

Challenge

Provision of an IT infrastructure which would allow for the refurbishment of all DVA test centres with new computer controlled equipment and a booking service for tests which would improve service to customers and offer a more flexible, comprehensive service.


Solution

Capita Managed IT Solutions implemented a new computerised booking system which integrates with the testing system in order to provide a seamless transition from booking stage to testing.  Capita also delivers a call centre service, providing a dedicated central booking facility and more recently an online booking service.  There are also a number of service management tools deployed to monitor the systems performance.


Result

Significant performance improvements have been recognised through the deployment of service management tools including reduction in IT resources by 30%, reduced monthly report workload and service penalties reduced.

The provision of a flexible remote working solution via Citrix, in which users can connect to all their applications and systems securely via an easy to use web interface.
